New Lifers Secure Medals in National Physics and Mathematics Competitions

New Lifers brought home the bacon from science and mathematics competitions, earning medals in the Philippine Junior Physics Challenge (PJPC) and Annual Group Interscholastic Math (AGIMATH).

Last January 24, Phillip Anthony Tsai from Berea and Hope Keila Ng from Patmos won gold medals at PJPC 2026, held at the University of the Philippines Diliman. Tsai was also declared the Grade 8 level winner, placing in the top 5% nationwide among participants in his grade level.

Besides Ng and Tsai, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s PJPC delegation also consisted of Annika Nicole Tan from Grade 10 and Pierce Victor Takai from Grade 8.

Meanwhile, the eliminations for the Philippine Physics Olympiad (PPO) were also held on the same day. Tsai, along with Olive students Aaron Russel Kho, Laira Caylee Chunpeng, and Alexander Mark Zheng and Zion students Krisha Anne Hernandez and Lara Jean Chan, represented the school at the PPO.

Organized by Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas and Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao, PJPC and PPO aim to challenge and develop students’ computational and analytical skills in physics.

Three days prior, Kho and Chunpeng, along with their classmate Nathan Andrew Alviar, won bronze in the La Salle Green Hills’ (LSGH) AGIMATH on January 21.

Out of 33 teams in the first round, the team placed among the top eight teams that qualified for the next round, in which they won third. Kho also garnered silver in trigonometry in the first round.

Hosted annually by LSGH’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics strand, AGIMATH is an avenue for Grades 10 to 12 students to showcase their mathematical knowledge and skills while fostering healthy competition and friendships among students.
