MGCNLCA’s Grade School Team Places Third in 27th Sipnayan

MGC New Life Christian Academy’s (MGCNLCA) grade school (GS) students bagged third place while the high school teams reached the semifinals at the 27th Sipnayanmathematics competition held at the Ateneo de Manila University throughout February 2026. 

Representing MGCNLCA in the GS category, Team 1, composed of Nathan Gohoc, Theo Chan, and Moira Ellyse Cordova of Grade 6, secured third place last February 28.

Jordan students Yul Kwon, Evander Mael Robert Lao, and Jacob Albert Chua, and Galilee students Abigail Lorraine Tieng, Nayla Serene Mateo, and Manolo Vito Tan made up Teams 2 and 3, respectively, as they participated in the same category.

Meanwhile, two Junior High School (JHS) and two Senior High School teams placed among the top 20 teams in the elimination round, qualifying for the semifinals. The JHS teams of Phillip Anthony Tsai of Grade 8, Kate Marie Aquino of Grade 9, Hope Keila Ng of Grade 10; and Sachi Caitlyn Esteban of Grade 9, Cassandra Jade Ortiga and Austin Michael Tan of Grade 10 competed last February 21. 

A week prior, the team of Olive students Aaron Russel Kho and Laira Caylee Chunpeng and Zion student Faith Caitlin Ng, along with the team of Nathan Andrew Alviar of Grade 11 and Kailey Alyssa Chua and Magnus Alexander Cabilangan of Grade 12, represented MGCNLCA in the semifinal round of the SHS category.

Pierce Victor Takai of Grade 8 with Nathaniel John Sia and Marco Dylan Ho of Grade 9 also joined the JHS category. 

Organized annually by the Ateneo Mathematics Society since 1999, Sipnayan is a nationwide team competition for grade school and high school students to foster a deeper appreciation of math and showcase their mathematical skills.
