From Classroom to Commerce: Damascus Students Try Their Hand at Business

Damascus students brought their lessons on entrepreneurship and commerce to life by selling different products to the school community from April 2 to 14, 2025, as their culminating project for Consumer Math (ConMath) and Araling Panlipunan (AP) subjects.

Organized through a collaboration led by ConMath teacher Pastor Francis Ang and AP teacher Paul Michael Co, the students sold a variety of products, such as baked goods, snacks, drinks, and clothing, at booths located in Lobby 2, Cafeteria 1, Cafeteria 2, and the fifth floor. Students made additional sales by roving the school hallways.

“I want to see the students [learning to work] with people they may not necessarily [be] comfortable working with because oftentimes, in life, you get grouped together [or] you get paired up with [people] you're not familiar with, or worse, someone you may not really like,” said Co. “Students should learn how to overcome those personal differences and discomfort if they [want to work towards a] bigger goal.”

Damascus D student Fia Jannae Yulangco commented that the project taught her how to budget money properly, spend wisely, and come up with a product to sell.

Meanwhile, Sophia Jadrine Sy of Damascus C shared how she learned about inventory keeping and properly managing finances through the selling project. “In business, you have to be organized or else you're [going to] have a hard time [managing your] business,” said Sy.

“We're scratching at the surface of the big iceberg of entrepreneurship, and this is just the start,” remarked Ang. “This is how I started learning from my parents, so I want all of my students to learn the same [way].”
