New Lifers Bag Medals at the 26th Word Cup

Lifenews staffers of MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) triumphed at the 26th Word Cup National Journalism Conference and Contest held last August 29 to 31 at Angels’ Hills Retreat and Formation Center, Tagaytay.

Zion students Faith Caitlin Ng and Caitlin Nicole Yu received First Place and Honorable Mention, respectively, in the Copyreading and Headline Writing category for Senior High School (SHS). Meanwhile, Hope Keila Ng of Patmos scored Second Place in the Junior High School bracket of the same category.

Moreover, Zion student Kailey Alyssa Chua was awarded First Place in the SHS Science Writing Category. In the Features Writing SHS category, Bianca Iyesha Sy from batch Zion garnered Second Place.

MGCNLCA was also recognized as a Silver Institutional Ambassador, together with Lifenews Features Adviser Lucille Cui and Daloy Adviser Marife Posada as Silver Ambassador awardees.

Zion students Peach Oribelle Diño, Gabrielle Ruth Hablero, Jazelle Dionne Lim, Nadine Julianna Mateo, and Lauren Mielle Wong; Olive students Hans Lewis Kho and Megan Jamie Lim; and Patmos students Abigail Louise Albano and Annika Nicole Tan also joined the MGCNLCA delegation.

The 26th Word Cup was a journalism competition attended by 500 participants nationwide. The three-day contest featured the categories News, Features, Editorial, Sports, and Science Writing in English or Filipino, as well as Photojournalism, Mobile Journalism, and Copyreading and Headline Writing. Each category consisted of five brackets: Elementary, JHS, SHS, College, and School Paper Advisers.
