Evangelist Eddie Mesa’s Talk Kicks Off Bible Week Celebration

In observance of National Bible Month, the Christian Education Department of MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) kicked off the week-long event themed “Living Out God’s Timeless Truths” with a talk by Evangelist Eduardo "Eddie" Mesa last January 30.

In a powerful testament to faith and music, Mesa, hailed as the Philippines' own Elvis Presley, stirred the hearts of Grade 9 to 12 students. With passionate conviction, he delved into the heart of his testimony, sharing the true meaning of success. Mesa revealed the darker chapters of his life, acknowledging his past infidelity and the subsequent breakdown of his family. His journey led him to Las Vegas, where a chance encounter with Bobby, a Christian and the lead of a Filipino band, became a turning point. Bobby's words about the emptiness of a life without God resonated with Mesa, eventually leading him to a transformative realization.

Interwoven with his testimony were three poignant songs carefully chosen to resonate with his narrative. From the poignant "Tradin' a Cross for a Crown" by the Collingsworth Family to the classic "The Wonder of You" by Elvis Presley and the spiritually charged "Radically Saved" by Carman Liccariardello, Mesa used music as a powerful medium to convey his message and capture the audience's attention.

Renowned soprano and MGCNLCA parent Marian Cabahug also graced the stage with her soulful rendition of “Our Father” by Don Moen.

Mesa's visit marked the beginning of Bible Week festivities, setting a tone of reflection, inspiration, and renewal for the days ahead.

The following day, Lower Primary Years (LPY) and Grade 4 students went to school in different costumes related to Bible characters. They also took part in arts and crafts activities in coloring Luke 11:28.

On February 1, Grade 5 to 8 students were enlightened through a talk about the translation of the Bible. Dr. Leonida Bendicion, the Philippine Coordinator of Illumination Asia, talked about the importance of one's access to the Bible, emphasizing that it allows people to know that God loves them. Meanwhile, Jill Codilla Choa, the Country Director of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) Philippines, spoke about the ongoing Bible poverty happening across the world.

Throughout the week, booths were available for everyone on the ground floor in Lobby 2. An array of merchandise such as books, clothes, and keychains from OMF, PBS, CBN Asia (Superbook), IllumiNations Asia (Bible Translators) were sold. Students also patronized food stalls from Sharetea and Potato Corner.
