Empowered to Educate: MGCNLCA Hosts Teacher Training Conference
MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA), in partnership with the Group of Private School Owners and Administrators (GPSOA), gathered over 350 educators from various schools for a teacher training conference last January 17, aimed at developing teacher competencies that help them become effective educators, leaders, and collaborators.
With the theme “Empowered to Educate: Looking Inward, Reaching Outward,” the conference was organized to respond to the growing challenges—including rapid curricular changes, technological creation, and mental health concerns—faced by educators today, helping them reignite their sense of spiritual purpose and calling amid the current pressure and demands of the education sector.
The conference was divided into two workshops, featuring MGCNLCA teachers as the speakers. Workshop 1 focused on strengthening subject expertise in Numeracy, Literacy, Filipino, Science, Araling Panlipunan, and Music, Arts, and Physical Education and Health for teachers of all levels.
Following this, Workshop 2 featured a series of breakout sessions that participants could choose from based on their interests and preferences. These sessions’ themes included classroom management, teacher burnout, leadership and collaboration, Gen Z relatability, conflict resolution, parent engagement, confidence and leadership, and the use of technology and Artificial Intelligence in teaching.
Afterwards, the participants were given the opportunity to break out into groups to reflect and exchange experiences with each other.
Literacy Workshop Speaker and Grade 10 English Teacher Lucille Cui expressed how conversing and listening to her fellow teachers reminded her that teachers enter the classroom carrying personal experiences and responsibilities that shape how they lead and support students beyond academics.
“This event reaffirmed for me that when teachers are anchored in Christ and are willing to examine their inner lives, they are better equipped to teach with wisdom, compassion, and integrity. Only then can we lead students not just academically, but holistically,” remarked Cui.
“Hearing the testimonies of the administrators and teachers who attended the Teacher Training reaffirmed my role and purpose as an educator. Most of the attendees who responded to the evaluation form gave positive feedback, which further encouraged me and affirmed that the training truly made an impact,” reflected Event Organizer Evelyn Joy Cawaon.
As a part of MGCNLCA and GPSOA’s mission to support and uplift educators, the conference was organized by MGCNLCA’s Outreach Team and is an ongoing initiative that provides public and private school teachers with accessible training, mentorship, and collaboration through conferences and workshops such as these.
