The MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) Badminton Team delivered an impressive performance in the Inter-School Badminton League Team Event held last September 26 at Centro Athletico, bringing home one championship title and three silver medals across multiple divisions, as well as a Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
The Boys Elementary Team, composed of Liam Hunter Co, Jimmy You, Alexander Zhang, Alonzo Zhang, and Justin Ryder Co, delivered a standout performance, battling their way to first place and the championship title in their division.
Adding to the team’s achievements, Alexander Zhang was named the Boys Elementary MVP for his outstanding individual performance and contribution to the boys’ championship finish.
Following their division’s championship finish, the Middle School Boys Team, consisting of Thomas Huang, Caleb Zachary Tiu, Seth Nico Ong, Lucas Andrew Chung, and Jeremy Ngo, displayed determination and hard work as they finished as runners-up and earned a silver medal.
Carrying this momentum, the Girls Elementary Team, represented by Julia Violette Lim, Sandrine Daye Soliven, Jaina Lauren Ang, Yoonah Song, and Yesha Sophia Phang, delivered an impressive performance, securing a silver medal in their division.
Rounding out MGCNLCA’s medal finishes, the High School Girls Team, composed of Alessi Johanna Chua, Bethany Grace Tan, Alianna Zhang, Ahyoon Song, and Lexie Eva Siao, capped MGCNLCA’s medal haul with another silver medal, showcasing the school’s strong performance across age divisions.
Team Captain Chua reflected on the team’s strong showing at the tournament and the lessons they gained from competing against other schools.
“I believe the team did well in making sure that each player contributed their part and gave their best to win their games, knowing that every point could make a difference for the team,” said Chua. “It was also great to see how we consistently supported one another by watching our teammates' games.”
Chua also stressed the importance of physical and mental preparation, emphasizing the need to stay composed during crucial moments. “It's important for us to stay composed, especially during close or difficult games. Rather than letting our emotions affect our performance, we should trust in God and continue to give our best until the very end.” she concluded.
