Tiu Captures Gold for Team Philippines in Hong Kong Championship

MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) Badminton Player Caleb Zachary Tiu struck gold in his international debut, helping Team Philippines A rule the Under-15 Mixed Tie at the Hong Kong Football Club and Torq Sports Overseas Junior Team Championship 2026, held last July 25-26 in Hong Kong.

Coach Anthony Devesa of Team Allied Badminton Philippines invited Tiu to represent the Philippines in the tournament, giving the young shuttler his first opportunity to compete on the international stage.

Facing junior standouts from different countries, Tiu powered Team Philippines A’s championship run by winning four out of his five matches. His strong showing proved crucial in lifting the Philippine team above the international field and securing the Under-15 Gold.

“It means a lot to me to win this gold medal as it is my first time to compete internationally and to represent both my school… and the Philippines. I was not expecting to win a medal but just to gain experience and play my best. Earning this win showed me that hard work, dedication, and discipline pay off in sports. This experience also helped me realize what I still need to work on for future competitions.” Tiu commented. “I thank God for this great opportunity.”

Tiu’s gold-medal finish brings pride not only to MGCNLCA but also to the Philippines. With this achievement in his young badminton career, Tiu looks to continue improving and chasing greater accomplishments in future competitions.
