Walking on Thin Ice

Have you ever wondered why our summers are hotter and January is colder than usual? Well, the reason that's happening is because of climate change. Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperature and weather patterns. Looking back on the early 2000s, we can see that the climate hadn’t changed much yet. During that time, the weather was stable. Nowadays, though, the weather and temperatures are changing rapidly each year.

It’s scary how climate change can bring us down. While shifts can be natural due to the sun's activity or large volcanic eruptions, it has gotten progressively worse because of our doing. The use of fossil fuels like coal, gas, and oil releases harmful toxins and traps the sun's heat in our ozone layer, leading to the earth being heated up and experiencing climate change. The consequences of climate change can include wildfires, floods, rising sea levels, melting ice, and much more. It’s not just us getting affected; it is also the millions of organisms that live here with us.

There are so many ways we can help. We can reduce energy use by choosing to use  alternative transportation options to save on gas. Following reduce, reuse, and recycle can also help reduce the amount of waste we produce. Additionally, informing others who don't really know what's happening to our earth would also be helpful. The more we inform, the more they will take action.

We cannot stop climate change, but we can prevent it from becoming worse. It’s up to us to create change, and we can do it if we work together as one. Even if the effects of climate change  don’t mean anything to us right now, it could in the future. Remember, we only have one earth and not taking good care of it would be  us walking on thin ice.
