New Lifer Qualifies for National Stage of PMO
Zion student Faith Caitlin Ng placed among the top 20 qualifiers for the National Stage of the 28th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) to be held from February 28 to March 1, 2026 at the University of Santo Tomas.
Now in her last year of high school, Ng was the lone New Lifer who qualified for the nationals after hurdling the Area Stage of the PMO on December 13, 2025 and the Qualifying Stage earlier in October. Other mathletes who took the Area Stage qualifying exam were Philip Anthony Tsai from Grade 8, Austin Michael Tan from Grade 10, and Aaron Russel Kho from Grade 11.
Ng is the fifth New Lifer to qualify for the PMO National Stage, following Batch 13’s Farrell Eldrian Wu, Batch 18’s Shawn Darren Chua, Batch 19’s Rickson Caleb Tan, and Batch 20’s Elliot Xander Albano.
PMO is the oldest and most prestigious math competition in the country. Conducted by the Mathematical Society of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute, the 20 qualifiers will undergo an intensive summer math training program in order to determine the top six performers who will represent the country at the IMO. The 67th IMO will be held from July 10 to 20, 2026 in Shanghai, China.
