A Sweet Success: MGCNLCA Debate Varsity Hosts Marmalade Schools BP

Marking a key milestone, MGC New Life Christian Academy’s Debate Varsity hosted its inaugural tournament, the Marmalade Schools British Parliamentary (BP), in collaboration with Homeschool Global from February 28 to March 1, 2026.

A total of 45 teams composed of 90 participants gathered for two days of intense debate. The tournament consisted of four preliminary rounds, with break announcements to conclude the first day. Advancing teams competed the following day in novice rounds for beginner debaters and open rounds for more experienced participants.  

In the end, the team Low Cortisol from Ateneo Senior High School (SHS) emerged victorious as the Grand Final Champions. Meanwhile, PT Cruiser from the University of Santo Tomas SHS won the Novice Finals. 

Debate Varsity President Bianca Iyesha Sy expressed her fulfillment in leading and hosting the Marmalade tournament. “Passion truly takes you to spectacular places and beautiful opportunities. Through it all, I am grateful for this blessing that God has given me,” she expressed.

Additionally, she hopes that the tournament serves as “a strong foundation for the future of the varsity” and inspires participants to uphold the school’s motto, “Strive for Character, Strive for Excellence” throughout their debating career.
