New Lifers Win at STEAM Ahead 2025 Competition

It was a harvest of medals for New Lifers at the STEAM Ahead 2025 Competition held last December 12 to 18 in Shenzhen, China, with awards garnered in the team and individual categories for both the Vanda International Junior Science Olympiad (VIJSO) and the International Junior Math Olympiad (IJMO).

Displaying an outstanding performance at the VIJSO, Evan Michael Gaw of Nazareth and Johann Audric Chan of Berea won gold in the team category and received silver in the individual category.

Meanwhile, Madeleine Christina Sy from Patmos attained silver in the team category and an honorable mention in the individual category, while Abbie Gail Ang from Damascus won bronze in the team category.

Furthermore, in the IJMO, David Gerard Sy from Nazareth bagged a bronze medal, while his sister Madeleine Sy garnered a silver medal.

Gaw, Chan, Ang, and the Sy siblings all qualified for the VIJSO and IJMO in China after the elimination round early this year.

The STEAM Ahead program offered a combination of contests that test the skills of students in categories such as Math, Science, Arts, Cybersecurity, and Informatics, two of which the New Lifers participated in. These programs aim to help children enhance their talents and develop a foundation for their future careers through competition.
