MGCNLCA Badminton Varsity Crowned PCYAA Back-to-Back Champions

The MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) Badminton Varsity Team secured back-to-back championships in the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Season 13 following a hard-fought finals appearance against Jubilee Christian Academy on February 1, 2026, at the Sureshot Sportsville badminton court.

In the boys’ division, the MGCNLCA shuttlers—consisting of Jairus Jacob Lee, Lucas Andrew Chung, Caleb Zachary Tiu, Carlson Seth Go, and Huang Minyu—dominated their singles matches against JCA, securing the overall championship without needing a doubles decider, scoring 21–16 and 21–12.

Playing in the girls’ division were Sharlize Yllyna Bayot, Alessi Johanna Chua, Bethany Grace Tan, Ahyoon Song, and Lexie Eva Siao. The New Lifers opened their finals with a strong burst, winning the first singles but losing the second. As a result, the championship came down to the deciding doubles match.

With the championship on the line, the doubles pair of Tan and Song stepped onto the court for the deciding match. The pair delivered under pressure, relying on communication, composure, and persistence to close out the game 21-19 and secure the PCYAA Season 13 title for MGCNLCA.

“The entire game, I was thinking that it would be impossible to beat these players since we already lost against them before. I can for sure say that we played our best, and it’s all by God’s grace that we are able to experience this win,” Tan recounted.
