New Lifers Win Silver at the Artec URC 2025 in Japan

MGC New Life Christian Academy students Kiro Miroslav Choa of Berea and Daniel Johan Yeung of Nazareth bagged a silver medal in the Idea Contest (Advanced Division) of the Artec Universal Robotics Challenge (URC) 2025, held last September 20 in Osaka, Japan.

Guided by the theme, “A Better World For All,” as inspired by Sustainable Development Goal 11, “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” this competition was organized by Japan’s Artec Co. Ltd, with Data Science and Technology Corporation as its Philippine partner.

Choa and Yeung presented their project entitled “Automated Greenhouse Unit,” using official Artec material to build their projects, such as Studuino, Studuino:bit Core Unit, and Studuino Lite. This project aims to utilize vertical hydroponics and robotics to improve food safety and sustainability in urban environments through an automated system that can grow vegetables within minimal space.

“Joining the Universal Robotics Challenge 2025 was an unforgettable experience… Working on our project pushed us to think beyond what we learn in the classroom and apply technology to solve real-life problems. It was inspiring to see so many young creators from different countries share their ideas and solutions to solve people’s problems,” expressed Choa and Yeung.

The Artec URC was designed to nurture students’ creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving skills by challenging delegates to build robots and innovative systems that can withstand obstacles posed by climate and societal issues, creating more resilient and sustainable communities.
