MGCNLCA Secures 2nd Runner-Up in PCYAA Swimming Competition

The MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) swimming varsity delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second-runner-up at the Season 13 Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association (PCYAA) Swimming Tournament held at St. Stephen’s High School last January 31. The team racked up an impressive 35-medal haul, including 16 golds, 10 silvers, and nine bronze medals.

200m Medley Relay

In the Girls 12 & Under 200m Medley Relay, Nichelle Monique Dela Cruz, Solene Faith Wong, Alexandra Wang, and Nicolle Writz So delivered a gold-medal performance, while Lance Andre Fontarum, Antonio Dela Cruz, Evan Michael Gaw, and Adrian Liam Bicol finished strong with bronze medals in the Boys 12 & Under category. Meanwhile, Rianne Avery Kho, Brielle Dominique Ong, Lauren Cassandra Siao, and Brielle Marquisha Pua finished on the podium, taking bronze medals in the Girls 13 & Over 200m Medley Relay. Antonio Dela Cruz, Solene Wong, Wang, and Gaw also claimed third place in the 200m Mixed Medley Relay.

100m Individual Medley

The New Lifers exhibited consistent performances in the 100m Individual Medley, with Wang leading the heat in the Girls 10 & Under category. Gaw and Nichelle Dela Cruz dominated the Boys and Girls 11-12 category, with Gaw finishing on top and Dela Cruz in second place. Both Adrian Calvin Wong and Siao delivered an outstanding performance in the Boys and Girls 17 & Over category, taking home the gold medal.

50m Butterfly

Siao maintained the lead in the Girls 17 & Over 50m Butterfly, bagging the gold medal, while Adrian Wong and Nichelle Dela Cruz garnered silver medals in their own divisions. Wang secured a bronze medal in the Girls 10 & Under division, adding another medal to the team haul.  

50m Backstroke

Wang opened the 50m Backstroke event with a gold-medal finish in the Girls 10 & Under, followed by Gaw and Nichelle Dela Cruz, who both topped their respective divisions. The seniors also made their splash, as Siao surged to gold in the Girls 17 & Over while Adrian Wong seized silver in the Boys 17 & Over.

50m Freestyle

Wang once again set the pace in the 50m Freestyle event, snagging gold in the Girls 10 & Under, followed by Gaw and Siao, who also finished on top of their races in the Boys 11–12 and Girls 17 & Over, respectively. The event continued to favor MGCNLCA, as Nichelle Dela Cruz and Adrian Wong secured silver in the Girls 11–12 and Boys 17 & Over, respectively.

200m Freestyle Relay

The Mixed 12 & Under team, consisting of Gaw, Wang, Nichelle Dela Cruz, and Fontarum, powered to gold in the 200m Freestyle Relay. The team’s success was matched by four bronze-winning squads: the Boys 12 & Under team (Gaw, Antonio Dela Cruz, Lance Fontarum, and Bicol), the Girls 12 & Under team (Wang, Anika Porche Chua, Nichelle Dela Cruz, and Solene Wong), the Boys 13 & Over team (Baron Ong, Lucas Daniel Siao, Sebastian Royce Ty, and Adrian Wong), and the Girls 13 & Over team (Lauren Siao, Brielle Ong, Pua, and Kho), all of whom delivered strong, podium-worthy performances.

The MGCNLCA swim team capped off another remarkable season at the PCYAA competition, demonstrating skill, determination, and teamwork across all events. “It was truly inspiring to see everyone really push themselves and give it their all in every race, whether it was an individual event or a relay,” said Team Captain Adrian Wong in his final PCYAA season at MGCNLCA. “We’re incredibly grateful for the talent and teamwork that God has given us, and we hope to honor Him in every race moving forward.”
