New Lifers Qualify for Semifinals in PBO and PNCO-NCR 2026

MGC New Life Christian Academy (MGCNLCA) students reached new heights in major science competitions, excelling in both the Philippine Biology Olympiad (PBO) and the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad - National Capital Region (PNCO-NCR) 2026.

Johann Audric Chan of Grade 8 and Kailey Alyssa Chua of Grade 12 advanced to the next stage of the PBO 2026 after placing among the top 55 in the elimination round held last January 24 at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Out of 725 participants from various schools across the Philippines, Chan and Chua secured a spot in the semifinals to be held this coming March 21, marking the first time two New Lifers have made it to this stage.

The top 20 contestants will then proceed to the finals on March 28, 2026, in which the top four will be selected to represent the Philippines at the International Biology Olympiad from July 12 to 19, 2026 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Meanwhile, among 45 students from 16 schools across NCR, Grade 12 student Lara Jean Chan placed 11th in the PNCO-NCR held last February 2 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. This is the farthest an MGCNLCA student has achieved in this competition.

The PBO and PNCO-NCR serve as the premier competitions in the Philippines for biology and chemistry, respectively. Open to all high school students, both competitions strive to enhance students’ proficiency in their respective fields and further hone participants’ talents in science.
