MGCNLCA Debate Varsity Tallies Awards Across Competitions
Joining various local and international competitions across the debate circuit, the MGC New Life Christian Academy Debate Varsity demonstrated strong critical thinking and public speaking skills, earning several speaker awards and qualifying for varying brackets throughout the past school year.
Borneo Debate Open 2025: August 2 to 3, 2025
In one of the team’s first competitions of the year, Debate Varsity Captain Bianca Iyesha Sy of Zion was named the 5th High School Best Speaker.
Bicol Debate Open 2025: August 23 to 24, 2025
Ranked the 10th Best Open Speaker, Sy was also recognized as the Overall High School Best Speaker.
Lantugi Novice Cup 2025: August 30 to 31, 2025 (Online)
Zion students Cate Gian Chua and former Debate Varsity member Joshua Clark Tan secured a spot as the 4th Open Breaking Team.
Diliman Schools Asian Parliamentary (AP) 2025: September 20 to 21, 2025 (Online)
Mikaela Denise Co of Olive, Amara Marie Oleta of Patmos, and Natasha Malena Ortiga of Berea emerged as the 2nd Novice Breaking Team. Ortiga was also recognized as the 5th Best Novice Speaker.
4th Shanghai Novice Debate Open 2025: October 11 to 12, 2025 (Online)
Ortiga, together with Berea student Brielle Dominique Ong, achieved the 13th High School Break and advanced to the High School Quarterfinals.
Davao Novice Cup 2025: October 18 to 19, 2025 (Online)
Co and Roberto Fulgencio III of Olive qualified as High School Quarterfinalists.
Philippine Schools Debating Championship 2025: December 4 to 7, 2025
Sy and Pauline Isabel Takai of Zion advanced to the Open Quarterfinals after attaining the 16th Open Break.
China Schools Speech and Debate Championship 2025: December 13 to 14, 2025
Having secured the 2nd Open Break, Sy advanced as an Open Grade Finalist, earning her the title of 5th Best Open Speaker.
Cebu Novice AP 2026: February 14 to 15, 2026 (Online)
Oleta, along with Olive students Inigo Andre Melendres and Eliana Marie Oleta, secured the 2nd High School Break qualifying as High School Quarterfinalists. Meanwhile, Praneel Ramchandani Sahidjwani of Damascus received a Judge Break and panelled the High School Semifinals.
